Conditions

Expectations ...

It's at the heart of all relationships, the root of the demise of many as well. And unavoidably when we care for someone (or others) there are expectations. And the more one cares and loves the more one expects from the other. And when the other fails to meet these expectations the seeds of the end are sown ...

But can expectation be dispelled in any relationship? If it is possible, would that not spell unconditional love? Is unconditional love ever possible? I, unfortunately, believe it can never be.

It is the condition of being mortal that we love with a mortally-defined love. And a mortally-defined love is one that hopes and expects. Can love be without expectation? Can one hold on to a relationship without expectation from the other party? Would not one hope to be cared for as much as one cares? Is that not the basis of a relationship?

I wonder ... I know that over-expectation can be possible. I know that I still have a lot to learn about dealing with expectations in relationships and friendships despite the many painful lessons that were once taught to me.

But again, if there isn't any expecation, why have a relationship or frienship?

Hi Marc. There must be a reason why you are coming back to this Expectation topic again. How have you been? I hope things are going great in this 2005 for you. Take care.
