The Ending Year

We've reached another end to another year ... even if we didn't want it to or were hastily hurrying it along.

And like every other year we are told to make resolutions for the next year - as though the year would certainly arrive and pass for us renewed and rejuvenated. We are often asked to look forward, rarely back.

But I like looking backwards. And in so doing it helps me to move forward ... even if I were unwilling. Someone once told me that if we look back upon the year and realised that we have not cried, we would then have wasted the year - it would be a year lost. But if we had tears it would have been a good year; a year worth remembering. Because we would have cried for the things that have made us sad ... and the things that have made us happy. And in so doing we would know that we are alive, and not merely living.

...

I've had a good year.

And I owe it to 26 very special kids.
