For every once in a while, we sit down and look back at the past - events, people, circumstances, correspondences. And for that every once in a while, we so often feel a tinge if not a sense of regret.
"If only I'd done that ..."
"If only I'd said that ..."
"If only I'd agreed ..."
"If only I were there ..."
And the list goes on ... And indeed things would probably have been different if we'd fulfilled and performed the "If only" but will the "If onlys" end? Probably not.
To accompany the "If onlys", we have the list of "what ifs". It is sprung from failed expectations, from the desire for something to work out in some way or for someone to respond to what you've said or written in a way you'd hoped it would but was not.
And what do we do with "what ifs"?
