Roots

Every trip I take - no matter near or far - is always an enriching experience in vastly different ways. This trip down to Sarawak was a journey of cultural consciousness - of the awareness of cultural differences and an indigenous world that is slowly disappearing, culturally commodified. It makes one ponder about the paradox of industrial development and globalisation ...

The two day trek at Bako Forest Reserve was also an interesting experience. Kudos to Phyl who was able to keep pace with me every step of the way!

This is the snake Phyl stepped on by accident. It quite literally leapt into the air and onto the tree. Looking at the way it is, can't blame Phyl for stepping on it.

This is one of the reserve's inhabitants. It's quite oblivious to human presence and goes about feeding itself. It's called the 'Orang Belanda' or 'Dutchman' due to its huge nose. I couldn't help but think of Dennis when I saw it ... I'm not quite sure why! Nothing to do with the nose though.

It's off to KL tomorrow to join the Climbing kids. Actually, I'd rather be doing this than work - who wouldn't? Travelling - it's truly the best form of education.
