Just a passing thought while on the train ride home from Dabong ...
Every story has a beginning and an end. Even postmodern narratives that claim to fragment linearity and sequencing have starts and ends. They may not be revealed in the text , and the story may begin in media res but somewhere there is a beginning and an end - it is merely out-of-focus; or what my mentor and friend Dr Yong Li Lan calls 'out-of-frame' action (to employ technical terms from film studies).
What is my beginning and end to the story of my life? Is it birth and death, and everything that comes in between? But how can a beginning be so when one lacks consciousness? When does consciousness begin? When does it end?
What is your beginning and end to your story?
